The Great Devourer was one of the ten [[Aspects]], and the only one to have perished during the [[Scorched Conquest]]. It was the embodiment of [[Preservation]]. # Myth Long before the creation of [[Humankind]] by the [[Eternal Thought]], Loï, the Patient Hand, was known by her brethren for her strange ways. Her only contribution to the endeavour of creation was to keep a record of the [[Court of Voices|Court]]'s actions, a long poem that would later be known as the [[Telling of the Aspects|Telling]] by faithful of the [[Thanirist Tone]]. She sang their actions, weaving words together to memorialize this unique moment. She cared for her brothers and sisters, and she cared for their creations, but she wanted no part in the shattering of [[Nothingness]], as she was not yet ready. For centuries she observed, and sung. And when the humans were created, she took the responsibility to nurture them, to teach them of the times before their conception, to warn them of the [[Three Comings of the Aspects|three comings]]. And Humankind adopted her as their Mother. The Thought might have created them, but it was the Patient Hand that had raised them. When disorder and cruelty shook the [[Five People|People]], Loï called the leaders to her and reminded them of unity and fraternity. She was appaled by their squabbles, and when she let her eyes fall on them only to find them fighting once more, she erupted in wrath. Humankind learned that day the price of discord. When the [[Scorched Guard]] invaded [[Erathia]], Loï was the last one to join the fray. She feared this [[Second Coming of the Aspects|second coming]] to be hasty and rushed, believing Humankind capable of facing this foe alone. At her arrival, her eyes laid on a misshapen battlefield. Burnt forest, bodies littering the ground, stone ridges bore scars visible from a distance. How many years of battle had she missed ? What had happened to the [[Celestial Architect|Architect]]'s dream ? It mattered not, for upon her arrival, the conflict reignited. The Hand became the target of the Scorched and their legion, fighting for her life, fleeing. The tale of her death is fragmentary. Many accounts make mention of her fight against one of the Scorched, leaving desolation in their wake as they fought over the inhabited territories of [[Thenissia]]. Fire rained from the skies. When she passed, it is told that parts of her splintered from her body, letting her die incomplete. To this day, not a single soul has been picked by the Patient Hand, the Mother of our Kind. With her gone, there was no Aspect left to embody the human need for traditions. Humankind progressed, and drifted away from the teachings of Eras long passed.
