In the [[Aspectdom of Okkena]], a Saban (plural, Sabàn) is the holder of judicial power, a trained professional judge. The vast majority of the time, Sabàn hold court in the capital of the [[Electoral Provinces]] and are assigned cases by the most senior public servants of their order. Contrarily to a [[Daeli Judge|Daeli]] or [[Orlathian Judge|Orlathian]] judge, a Saban is more than a simple judge, as they are also religiously trained and are trusted with sanctioning religious cases when these present themselves. At the turn of the [[Early Reign of Blood]], the [[Maschera]] of what was then Western Ovgena, realised that their role had evolved far beyond spiritual and religious counselling, becoming a cornerstone of the judicial system. An offshoot of the contemporary priests assembled as a group to organise the judgements and pass the law according to the [[Thanirs]], the religious laws. Over time, this groupe gained power, and became its own organisation, operating parallel to the [[Thanirist Tone]], but feeding from its members. It's only around the middle of the [[High Reign of Blood]] that the Saban became more independent from the Tone, learning their craft in the legal schools of [[Nerokh]] before being sent in the major cities to apply Nerokh's law. In the current days, a Saban's carreer starts with dealing with civic offenses, settling disputes brought from the [[Okkenan local courts|local courts]] of satellite towns and villages, or local disagreements between citizens, as well as trade disputes. Then, when they are deemed experienced enough by their peers, they can be summoned to judge warriors, nobles or members of the priesthood. Sometimes, they would be attached to an army in campaign to deal with military problems. These Saban would be required to conduct military courts right after a battle, regardless of how far from the capital the warriors' forces are. After a long or prestigious career, a Saban could be invited to join the [[Mortal Court]] in Nerokh. This court is convened every [[Aspectdom Calendar|Blor]], staffed with 10 judges and presided by the [[Kas]] or the [[Ruler of Okkena|Queen]] herself. The verdict of the Mortal Court is final, and cannot be tampered with. Once the word is given, your fate is sealed. REF : https://www.mexicolore.co.uk/aztecs/you-contribute/aztec-law
