The Starljat, or Starl, are a Jathic people who had its roots in the northeastern part of [[Hehikren]] until the[[Contemporary Reign of Blood]] and their conquest followed by an enslavement by the [[Imperial Republic of Ovgena]] in 1565. While there are still tens of thousands of Starljat alive, their culture is slowly being diluted in the masses of the Hierarchy and through the scattering of its members. This people was a coastal tribe living between the shores of the [[Uncrossable Sea]] and the deep jungles of the [[Endlands Peninsula]], organised around a strongly engrained hinting and fishing culture. Most of their villages were located at the jungle border, with some communities living deeply rooted under the canopy's protection. While they shared common ancestry and united against the Ovgenian agression, Starljat society held no central power, letting each autonomous village grow at its own pace. Though, one element of their culture was shared across settlements : the [[Huntsmen]], this collective born a thousand years in the past had for sole purpose to gather the knowledge of any and all creatures alive. Fellow huntsmen would gather every five moons to exchange their discoveries and mastery of the wild. No creature too big, no knowledge too profane. For the Starljat and their hunters, nature is to be respected, but their place is at its top. Through domination and performance, the huntsmen learn about their preys, where to find them, where to hunt them, how to process their ressources and how to exploit them. For their Ovgenian counterparts, the Starljat are a crude people, butchering themselves during festivities. This strange practice is called the [[Gashing]] and for them, it is used to transmit complex messages about the identity, social status and accomplishments of its bearer.
